Supernatural will be made into an anime series.

This has been pretty much blogged everywhere. As I said on
petronia's lj - I saw this news yesterday eve, and I LAUGHED and LAUGHED till I had to leave the room.

For me, SPN was always easier to see as a manga/anime series than most western shows. It has all the staples of a shounen (shoujo?) manga series. You have the estranged father, the dead mother, and a journey for vengeance. Supernatural beings of all sizes and natures, demons and angels, heroes as the underdogs, angst, tragedy and a sense of humour. Hell, at the heart of the series are two brothers who LOVEs each other more than anything (it is like, EVERY anime/manga series has a set of siblings like them). There is an overall mythos within the storyline itself, interesting reoccurring characters, pretty cinematography and actors, and honestly, at times I forget that SPN didn't start off life as a shounen/seinen manga. And the most important factor - SPN, despite its setting in modern-day America, had a very Asian-sensibility when it came to the idea of family. I was pretty much imagining the show as an anime/manga series since mid-way through season 1.

Oh, and the Japanese fascination with Western religion. I’m honestly surprised it took them this long.

Let's just hope for a decent budget.

ETA: With some twitching I can easily graph Ed and Al onto Sam and Dean, or vice versa. The question is which is which – actually, you know what. No, I’m not going to go there in anymore details.

Ed is Dean and Sam is Al, this is blatant. (No srsly, I have always thought it. So yeah I guess in retrospect SPN's J-fandom is not much of a surprise. XD;)

HAHAHAHA! So true. And Castiel is Roy Mustang! The bitter/bong-smoking/orgy having Castiel! My life is kind of complete at this point.

SPN already have a small (but vocal and productive) J-fandom; doujins ahoy! Hell, I'm pretty sure there is a Chinese fandom for the show (I remember seeing something to that effect a few years back). It just SPEAKS to the female fandom-soul (the fact that the cast is so pretty helps greatly. Also, emo-porn is like honey to - you know what, I lost that allegory before I even begun it, emo-porn = greater female fanbase. I feel like there should be a mathematical equation to this).

Tomorrow, perseid and I will be having much spasticated fangiling in between great intellectual conversations about this matter. Mostly I’m fascinated by why SPN is being made into an anime series while other western shows aren’t. I can’t even remember an anime series based off modern western tv. The Matrix thing doesn’t count; it was a one-off and not based off a television show. Anime based on western classic books/novels is nothing new, but a TV show, a relatively new TC show is fascinating. I would love to know the reasoning. I mean there surely are other shows that are much more popular than SPN.
