Dear friend-list,

I need information and advice in regards to the wonders of Lasik.

- Price for one eye, and price for two eye.
- Do you still need to wear contact lenses/glasses after surgery?
- Which Lasik centres have a good reputation? Or at the very least where can I find this sort of information for Lasik surgeons in Australia (Perth).

From what I can gather it will cost me anywhere between $2000 to $3000 per eye. I'm hoping I can get both eyes done for $5000 (we shall see). I'm sick of glasses and squinting, or watching 3D films at cinemas with the bloody 3D glasses on top of my prescription glasses. Not fun.

So, advice, links, general hand-holding would be awesome.

But perhaps not make the horror stories too gruesome.

I don't really know anything about it myself (though I've been thinking about it) but as wendy or quietdiscerning. I know they've both been through it, they're both pretty friendly and quietdiscerning, at least, works in an ophthalmologist's. They're both in the US, so I don't know how much they could tell you about pricing or where to go, obviously, but they could tell you about their experience, what it was like, etc.

Thank you!

The idea of lasers and eyes is just scary.

I agree...but I've been thinking about it myself for all the same reasons you name. I'd love to be able to buy sunglasses off the rack, you know? And watch 3D movies without a headache.

Gods, the headaches I got from watching Avatar in 3D was pretty bad. Also, the fogging up of my glasses really gets to me.

The husband just got us family health coverage (he got them literally yesterday). Apparently they will cover one type of Lasik surgery once we have been with them for 12 months. It seems I will definitely be getting Lasik in 12 months time.

One of my LJ friends had it done. I recall she was happy with the result! Google on lasik site:multiplexer.livejournal.com/ for all the posts pertaining to that...

Edit: http://multiplexer.livejournal.com/339083.html may be the one you want to read first.

Personal stories help greatly. It means I don't have to think about the horror stories that get posted up ob forums and stuff.
