James Montgomery's MTV article - MCR's Perfect Album

So, MCR performed with WEEZER (I admit it, I had to wiki them), Mikey fulfilled a childhood dream, and the Ways are proven to be the giant dorks that they are. But, it isn't the reason I'm posting, no, no, no. I'm posting about James Montgomery's MTV article - My Chemical Romance's Danger Days: The Perfect Rock Album?. An extract:

And the more I think about it, the more I realize that My Chemical Romance basically did everything in their power to make Danger Days the perfect rock album — at least, according to me. Shoot, they practically followed the checklist. Concept records? I love those things. Batch of tunes scrapped because they were reportedly too out there to ever see the light of day? I wrote an entire column about that very topic two years ago. Inter-band strife that led to the departure of a key member (in this case, drummer Bob Bryar)? Boy, sounds like a Pinkerton Effect album to me. Simply put, they couldn't have planned this any better if they'd tried. Danger Days is practically tailor-made for me. No wonder I think it's perfect.

Gods, I LOVE it when Mr. Montgomery fanboys his way through an article.

I want to quote the whole article word for word. LOVES!

The only thing that has been said is musical difference. Then absolutely nothing. It is interesting that no new addition have been announced as of yet.

Bob have been seen around - hanging out with Brian and such, and then I think about a week or so ago something about working with animals(?).

i just think it's interesting, seeing as he used to work for the used. i'm just imagining a fight where bob brings up bert as a last resort weapon and gerard totally loses it and

*stares at horizon*

i don't even know. though it makes me sad to think of my old fic. mcr bandom loved bob so much, they mustn't be taking it too well.

*SNORTS* Oh, Bert and the Used.

Oh yeah, there were many who were not very pleased with this fact (I was sad for a few day), but generally speaking people are recovering.

From what I can gather they almost completed the album sometime in Jan (or Feb) of this year. Then it was announced via a blog entry from Frank that Bob and MCR have parted ways due to musical differences. AND then they scrapped the whole album and started again (like they do every single time).

And NOTHING have been said about it since then. Absolutely nothing. Not from MCR or from Bob. Hell, from the stalker pics of Bob, the man seems pretty relaxed about life (OH, GODS, I HOPE IT WAS A AMICABLE BREAK-UP. Like, sure, it fricking hurt now, but they will be able to TALK to each other in the future. CLINGS!).

HAHAHAHA! I'm so glad I was not there for the Bert and Gerard break-up. That would have killed me.

DON'T SAY THAT! They were young and stupid. Now they are older and - well, less likely to fuck up close relationships. Look, I'm REALLY, STUPIDLY invested in wanting MCR and Bob to be friends sometime down the road.

NB: It has always struck me that NOT talking about ex-band members was the, well, the classy thing to do. Like, it is definitely something I do with relationships that have ended, mainly because I don't think it is anyone else's business, but also there is a certain level of respect I still have for all my past relationships (as in friendships and whatever else). As a fan, I WANT TO KNOW, DAMMIT!

Also - supposedly, Spencer, Brendon and Ryan are having dinners now. Together, at the same table. Hmm. I just want them to be friends again, but I'm perfectly happy for them to be in different bands. Because damn, I like THE differences.

the bert/gee breakup legit broke my heart. it was a big factor that led to me leaving bandom actually. (i moved to the movie fandom for The Watcher, possibly even MORE depressing in its solitariness)

i think it affected a lot of fans in the same way - so many of us were invested in their relationship and it had caused so much productive cross band fandom unity and general good feelings that, when it ended (and so badly) a huge amount of fans became disillusioned, and left.

black parade era fans are lucky that they missed the majority of the heartbreak of early mcr!
