Unstoppable, and The Tourist

Saw Unstoppable AKA "Why Trains Are Awesome!" And wow. Chris Pine is definitely not a one trick pony.

(BTW: The film stopped about 70% in, the audience cracked up (it was a very tense moment), I might have whistled, the lights went up and we had to wait about 5mins before it was back on.)

I really enjoyed it, from a complete technical point of view, the cinematography and editing had me at the edge of my seat for about 80% of the film. Visually - the sheer size and power of the trains is absolutely mind boggling and frightening.

Not something to watch if you are looking for deep thinking and characterisation, but an extremely good popcorn film with good acting, amazing visuals and awesome pacing.

Oh, and I saw The Tourist last week(?). Before I say anything else I just wanted to get something off my chest; I saw the preview for this film sometime last year and thought to myself, "Wow. They really need fire their marketing person for this one. How can anybody make a preview about a film starring Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp boring?" I would like to apologise for those thoughts. You make such a preview because the source is truly that blend and boring.

I was expecting zing, zazzle, sexual chemistry and tension. Instead I got muddled plot, blend characters and absolutely NO chemistry between two hot people. It was truly disappointing. To make matters worse I guessed the MAJOR SECRET of the film literally ten minutes into it.

Look, I'm a fan of films, any sort of films, in an genera, as long as it is done well. Even a truly bad film, if done right can be hilarious. The Tourist performed the worst sin in my book, it was BORING. So VERY BORING. I'm all for escapism, but I want FUN, EXCITING, ROMANTIC escapism. This was none of the above.

In short, don't bother with The Tourist, instead, go and watch Unstoppable, or rent out Red. They are much better entertainment.

It is like good-food. Foood.

But yes - really well put together film. The tension just kept going up and up. When the 777 was heading toward the train full of school children, I was like, "NOOOOOOO!" So tense!

It had my attention right off the bat. So deliciously good.
